Warrick County, IN Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

Section 150.15 requires a building permit before beginning any improvement to a building or structure that involves modification, changing, or new installation of an electrical, plumbing, or mechanical system where the cost exceeds $750, expressly listing installation of a furnace, hot water heater, new meter base, meter base relocation, or panel upgrade among the covered work. Section 150.40(A) adopts by reference, under I.C. 22-13-2-3(b), the rules of the Indiana Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission set out in Title 675 of the Indiana Administrative Code, including at (3) Article 16, the Indiana Plumbing Code, along with the Indiana Building Code, Residential Code, Electrical Code, Mechanical Code, Energy Conservation Code, and Swimming Pool Code; those amendments apply automatically as the state updates them, and two copies of the adopted rules are kept on file with the clerk of the legislative body for public inspection under I.C.

36-1-5-4. Under Section 150.17's fee schedule, a residential electrical, plumbing, or mechanical improvement over $750 is charged $30, and the same category of commercial work is charged $50. The Building Commissioner may grant a variance from the adopted plumbing rules under Section 150.40(C), but pursuant to I.C. 22-13-2-7(b) that variance is not effective until the state Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission approves it. The permit application itself follows the general Section 150.16 process, and the completed work remains subject to periodic inspection by the Building Commissioner under Section 150.30.
