Bristol, CT Business Licensing & Operations: Adult Entertainment (2026)

Article VI of Chapter 13 regulates adult-oriented establishments in the City of Bristol, defined broadly under § 13-102 to include adult bookstores, adult motion picture theaters, adult mini-motion picture theaters and any premises where an entertainer provides adult entertainment for a profit. Section 13-103 sets the operating rules: no operator or employee may allow a minor to loiter anywhere on the premises, including adjacent parking lots; the establishment must be well lit at all times; and any booth, cubicle, room or stall where adult entertainment is provided must be clearly visible from the common areas, with visibility never blocked by doors, curtains, partitions or drapes, and enclosed viewing booths are banned outright.

The same section imposes citywide spacing limits: no adult-oriented establishment may sit within 1,000 feet of any school, church or area zoned residential, and none may sit within 1,000 feet of an existing adult-oriented establishment, with the distance measured by the nearest straight line between the two lots' boundaries. All such establishments must stay open to inspection at all reasonable times by the Bristol Police Department, city inspectors or the Bristol-Burlington Health District. Operators are legally responsible for their employees' violations, including violations caused by negligent failure to supervise.

Section 13-104 makes a violation punishable by a fine of up to $90, treating each violation as a separate offense and any violation lasting more than an hour as a new offense for every additional hour.
