No adult-oriented business shall be established, located, or operated within certain distances of certain specified land uses or zones as set forth below: A.No such business shall be established or located within 1,500 feet of any other adult-oriented business.B.No such business shall be established or located within 1,500 feet of any existing residential zone (to the extent such residential zone may feasibly be used for a residential dwelling unit of a type permitted by the city), residential use, park, public building (which the public is authorized to attend), church, school, boys club, girls club, or similar existing youth organization.

Operating without the required permit, or in a location or zone that violates Sections 17.16.460 or 17.16.490, is punishable under Chapter 1.12 as a misdemeanor: up to a $1,000 fine, up to six months in Los Angeles County Jail, or both, with each day of continued violation a separate offense. The city manager may instead suspend a permit for up to 30 days or revoke it after a hearing under Section 17.16.570; a revoked permit holder cannot reapply for the periods set by that section, and operating during suspension or after revocation exposes the business to the same misdemeanor penalties.
