Fond du Lac County, WI Business Licensing & Operations: Tattoo & Body Modification (2026)

Fond du Lac County Code § 30-126(a) requires any body piercing and tattooing establishment to obtain a non-prorated license from the health department before operating, alongside restaurants, hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, and other establishments the board of health regulates under Article V, Division 2. Section 30-121 grounds this licensing power in Wis. 04(3) and the county's designation as a state agent under Wis. 16, letting the health department set license fees, issue licenses and enact regulations stricter than state law. Section 30-124(b) makes clear the health officer's authority to issue a temporary order for an immediate danger to health, drawn from Wis.

0417(2), also applies to enforcement of tattooing and body piercing establishments under Wis. Admin. 06. Section 30-126(c) requires a preinspection of the premises before a license is granted, and § 30-127 gives the health department 30 days to act on a complete application. Fees are set on the county board of health's fee schedule under § 30-128, covering the license, preinspection, and any reinspection needed to address a compliance issue found under SPS 221. A denied, suspended or revoked license can be appealed first to the health officer within 30 working days and then to the county board of health, under § 30-125.
