Violations & Fines
Violating any provision is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $1,000 fine, up to six months in jail, or both, with each day a separate offense and civil penalties up to $2,500 per offense (CVMC 5.56.120(A), (C)). Selling without a valid permit also makes the retailer ineligible for a new permit: 30 days after a first violation, 90 days after a second, and five years after a third or subsequent violation at that location within 60 months (CVMC 5.56.120(D)).
