Section 4-12.14 governs how the Piscataway Township Police Department calls a wrecker once a vehicle needs to be towed from a scene. Approved wrecker companies are called on a rotating basis maintained by the Police Department, which designates one approved company to be on call at a time. Light duty wrecker companies rotate daily, with a new company on call each day, while medium and heavy duty wrecker companies rotate on a monthly basis instead. The rotation, however, does not override a vehicle owner's or driver's own choice: if they name a specific approved wrecker company, the Police Department must call that company instead of whichever one is next on the rotation list, and no other approved company may be dispatched in its place.

The only exception is when the vehicle sits in an unsafe location or is obstructing traffic and the requested company cannot respond within the 20-minute allotted time frame the section sets for a company that is on call. Section 4-12.14 separately and expressly forbids cruising, meaning driving a wrecker on Township streets to solicit towing business from members of the public, a practice that undercuts the point of running an approved rotation list in the first place.
