Jersey City cannabis dispensaries must maintain minimum separation distances from schools, parks, daycare centers, and other dispensaries under Chapter 192 zoning rules adopted following New Jersey recreational cannabis legalization in 2020.
Jersey City Ordinance 21-077 and subsequent amendments to Chapter 192 establish a 200-foot buffer between cannabis retail establishments and public or private schools, plus 600 feet between dispensaries to prevent clustering. Drug-free school zones under New Jersey Statute 2C:35-7 do not automatically apply to legal cannabis sales but Jersey City uses similar geographic logic for siting. The Cannabis Control Board reviews each application against zoning maps maintained by the Jersey City Division of Planning. Conditional approvals require community impact statements and notice to property owners within 200 feet of the proposed location.
Application denial, conditional license revocation, and zoning enforcement up to $1,250 per day under Jersey City Chapter 345 zoning enforcement until the use is brought into compliance.
