Lauderhill, FL Cannabis Regulations: Buffer Zones (2026)

Section 5.50(B) of the Land Development Regulations sets locational limits on medical marijuana dispensing centers that go beyond the general licensing rules for a medical marijuana health care establishment in Section 5.50(A). Subsection (B)(2) imposes three separation distances, measured under the method in LDR Article I, Section 1.5: a half-mile buffer between a dispensing center and any pain management clinic, a half-mile buffer between one dispensing center and another, and a 500-foot buffer between a dispensing center and any public or private elementary, middle, or secondary school, all measured without regard to city jurisdictional boundaries, so a dispensary near Lauderhill's border with Lauderdale Lakes, Sunrise, or North Lauderdale must still count facilities across the line.

The school buffer can only be waived through the exception process set out in state law. To prove compliance, Section 5.50(B)(2)(d) requires the applicant to submit a certified survey from a Florida-registered land surveyor showing the exact linear-foot distance to the nearest pain management clinic or dispensing center, filed with a zoning verification request and fee. Section 5.50(B)(3) allows an exemption from the center-to-center and clinic separation standards, though not the school buffer, if the dispensary sits alone in a freestanding building on its own platted lot with at least 2,500 square feet of floor area.

Dispensing, paying for, and consuming medical marijuana are barred anywhere outside the dispensing center itself, including in the parking lot or surrounding sidewalks, under Section 5.50(B)(4) and (B)(5).
