West Jordan, UT Cannabis Regulations: Buffer Zones (2026)

Note 2 to the agricultural zone use table in section 13-5A-2 sets two separate buffers for any cannabis production establishment permitted in the A-20 zone. The first bars a facility from locating within 1,000 feet of a public or private school, a licensed child-care facility or preschool, a church, a public library, a public playground, or a public park. The second bars a facility from a district zoned primarily residential, or from locating within 600 feet of such a district. The code specifies how both distances are measured: "from the nearest entrance to the cannabis production establishment by following the shortest route of ordinary pedestrian travel to the property boundary of the community location or residential area," rather than a straight line on a map, so the actual walkable distance controls.

Because these buffers stack on top of the A-20-only zoning limit covered separately under West Jordan's cannabis production zoning rules, very little land in the city can host the use in practice: it must sit on a twenty-acre A-20 parcel, outside 1,000 feet of any school, church, library, playground or park, and outside 600 feet of any residential district. Applicants should expect the development services department to require a walking-route distance study, since the ordinance does not accept a straight-line radius as proof of compliance.
