Home cultivation of cannabis is illegal in unincorporated Dallas County under Texas Health and Safety Code Chapter 481 (Texas Controlled Substances Act). Marijuana remains classified as a Schedule I controlled substance in Texas. Possession of any amount is a criminal offense. There is no home cultivation allowance for personal use. The Texas Compassionate Use Act allows limited low-THC cannabis (under 1% THC) to be prescribed to qualifying patients, but only through licensed dispensing organizations, not home cultivation. Note: Dallas city voters approved a decriminalization measure in 2024, but this applies within city limits only, not in unincorporated Dallas County.
