Chatham County enforces the Georgia State Minimum Standard Swimming Pool and Spa Code (based on the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code) and the residential pool barrier provisions of the Georgia State Minimum Standard Residential Code (based on the IRC), as adopted under O.C.G.A. § 8-2-20 et seq. Any residential pool deeper than 24 inches must be enclosed by a barrier at least 48 inches high on the outside. Gates must be self-closing and self-latching with the release at least 54 inches above the ground. Public pools are additionally regulated by Georgia DPH Rule 511-3-5.
