In the City of Savannah a property owner may not clear land or remove a protected tree without first obtaining a clearing permit from the city administrator (arborist). Removal in a wetland or marsh also triggers state Coastal Marshlands review.
Savannah Code Β§ 8-11005(3)
Permit Required for Tree Removal. Except as provided in this chapter, a property owner shall not clear (as defined in section 8-11004) or permit the clearing of property or the removal of any tree without first obtaining a clearing permit as provided for in section 8-11006.
