Solicitor Permits

Canvassing, peddling or soliciting door-to-door in Fairfax County without a license is unlawful under County Code Section 31-2-1. The Department of Cable and Consumer Services issues one-year licenses for a $20 fee after fingerprinting and a background check, and the Director can deny, suspend or revoke a license for felony convictions, fraud, or consumer-law violations.

No-Knock Registry

Fairfax County Code Section 31-1-2 makes it unlawful for any canvasser, peddler, or solicitor to ring the bell, knock, or otherwise try to gain admittance at any residence, dwelling, or apartment displaying a "No Peddlers or Solicitors" sign, and separately confines all canvassing, peddling, and soliciting to the hours between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
