Fresno County protects designated historic resources through an opt-in HP Overlay District under Zoning Ordinance Section 818.2.090. A property owner listed on the county's historic resource inventory may apply to rezone into the HP Overlay, and once designated, every demolition, alteration, or addition to a structure inside the overlay needs a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic Landmarks and Records Advisory Commission.
