Transient Occupancy Tax

Gwinnett County levies an 8 percent excise tax on hotel, motel and short-term rental charges under code section 94-26, paid by the occupant to the operator or marketplace facilitator. The code's definition of "hotel" in section 94-23 expressly includes short-term rentals, so a homeowner renting on Airbnb or similar platforms owes the same 8 percent tax as a hotel guest.
