Food Truck Permits

Every mobile food vending platform in Howard County, from pushcarts to enclosed trucks using propane or another heat source, needs an annual inspection sticker from the Department of Fire and Rescue Services before it can operate. Operators must show a current county health inspection, valid ID, and current vehicle registration and inspection paperwork to get one.

Howard County Code § 18.207 bans "nontransit activity," including selling from a stationary spot, on County roads unless a vendor meets the "site-specific vending/operating" exception. Food trucks and roadside vendors may sell from the paved shoulder only between 8 a.m. and sunset, only on roads posted 45 mph or slower.
