Unincorporated Jackson County adopts the 2018 International Residential Code (IRC) and 2018 International Building Code (IBC) under Jackson County Code Chapter 54 (Building Code), enforced by the Public Works building inspection staff. Pool barrier rules follow IRC Appendix G / IBC Section 3109 standards: a minimum 48-inch-high enclosure surrounding any pool deeper than 24 inches, with self-closing/self-latching gates that swing outward and have latches at least 54 inches above the ground (or below 54 inches with the latch on the pool side and an opening no greater than 1/2 inch within 18 inches of the latch).
