Kenton County has adopted the Kentucky Building Code and Kentucky Residential Code in full, extending mandatory permits and inspections to every single-family dwelling built or remodeled in the unincorporated county. Electrical Permits

Kenton County requires anyone who installs, alters, or repairs electrical wiring, devices, or equipment for hire to hold an electrical contractor's or electrician's license from the Northern Kentucky Electric Authority. Property owners working on their own property are exempt. Advertising as a licensed electrician without holding that license is separately unlawful under the county code.
