Heritage & Protected Trees

Leon County designates the live oak as its official shade tree, the dogwood as its official flowering tree, and the longleaf pine as its official native tree, and gives those species extra protection at smaller diameters than ordinary trees. A live oak or longleaf pine at 12 inches DBH, or a dogwood at four inches DBH, is protected countywide.
