Loitering Rules

Loitering on any McHenry County-controlled building or grounds is illegal under the county's Building Use Ordinance. Section 2.96.040(G) bars loitering, disorderly conduct, or any nuisance conduct that blocks entrances, lobbies, corridors, elevators, stairways, or parking lots at county facilities. The McHenry County Sheriff enforces the rule, and violators face a fine between $50 and $500 per offense.

G. Loiter, initiate disorderly conduct, or initiate any conduct which creates a nuisance; reasonably obstructs the usual use of entrances, foyers, lobbies, corridors, offices, elevators, stairways, or parking lots; impedes or disrupts the performance of the official duties of County employees; or which prevents the general public from conducting business in a timely manner.

Outdoor Smoking Restrictions

McHenry County bars smoking within 15 feet of any entrance, exit, operable window, or ventilation intake at County-owned or leased buildings. The rule, set out in the county's Smoking Policy under Section 2.92.050, implements the Smoke Free Illinois Act and confines smoking to posted Designated Smoking Areas placed outside that 15-foot buffer. Smoking is also banned outright inside every County vehicle and piece of equipment.
