Panel Permits

Rooftop and ground-mounted solar panels in unincorporated McHenry County are permitted under the county's amended 2021 International Residential Code, not through a separate solar-only process. Photovoltaic systems must use UL 1741-listed inverters, meet roof-load engineering for the added panel weight, and keep ground-mounted arrays at least 7 feet from any other structure.
