Chickens & Livestock

Outside Alexandria, Pineville and the parish's other towns, it is unlawful for a chicken or any other kind of poultry to wander onto streets, sidewalks or a neighbor's property inside a recorded subdivision, under § 6-111. Loose horses, cattle, mules, hogs, sheep and goats are impounded parishwide under a separate stock law, and Ward 9 bars hog pens within 500 feet of a subdivision.

Cat Rules

Unincorporated Rapides Parish treats free-roaming cats differently depending on ownership. A sterilized, ear-tipped, rabies-vaccinated community cat must be returned to where it was found rather than held, while an owned cat is impounded for at least three days so the owner can reclaim it. Reclaiming costs a five-dollar impounding fee plus one dollar per day of custody, under § 6-1.
