The City of El Cajon enforces a juvenile curfew under ECMC Chapter 9.62. No minor under the age of 18 shall be present in any public place during curfew hours between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM of the following day. Exceptions include minors accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, minors traveling to or from employment, minors on emergency errands, and minors exercising First Amendment rights such as attending religious services. Parents or guardians who knowingly allow minors to violate the curfew may also be cited. The El Cajon Police Department enforces the curfew, particularly around the downtown area and Parkway Plaza shopping center.
First violation results in a warning. Subsequent violations may result in citations and fines under the city's general penalty provisions. Parents or guardians may be held responsible and cited for allowing minors to violate curfew. Minors may be detained and released to parents.
