Violations & Fines

Under § 9.14.180 any violation of Chapter 9.14, or failure to meet its mandatory requirements, is a misdemeanor, though the city may charge it as an infraction instead. § 9.14.190 caps misdemeanor fines and jail time at the limits set in Government Code § 36901 and infraction fines at Government Code § 36900, with a third infraction for the same provision in 12 months chargeable as a misdemeanor. Each day a violation continues counts as a separate offense under § 9.14.200, and violations are separately declared a public nuisance under § 9.14.230.
