Glynn County, GA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Section 615, Vision Clearance at Street Intersections, applies in every zoning district except the GC General Commercial District. On a corner lot, no fence, wall, terrace, sign, shrubbery, planting or other object that could obstruct a driver's view between 30 inches and ten feet above the finished street level may be placed within 25 feet of the point formed by the intersecting street right-of-way lines, or by those lines extended if the corner is rounded. Section 616, covering private roadways and entrances, applies wherever a private drive or roadway serving more than one dwelling unit meets a public street: within 25 feet of that intersection point, no fence, wall, hedge, other planting or sign may create a material impediment to visibility above a height of 2½ feet.

Neither section sets a separate flat maximum for a fence built elsewhere on a residential lot, such as along a rear or interior side yard away from any intersection; the ordinance's height restriction is tied specifically to the vision-clearance zones at street corners and private-drive intersections. A homeowner on a corner parcel therefore has to build any solid fence, wall or dense hedge low enough, generally under 30 inches within the 25-foot triangle at a public intersection or under 2½ feet at a private drive, to keep the driver sightline clear, even if a taller fence would otherwise be allowed on the rest of the lot.
