Kyle, TX Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Kyle's fence-height rules sit in § 54-11(b)(3), 'Privacy fences,' within the chapter's screening section. The general cap along a common property boundary is eight feet: 'all fences enabled by this subsection and along a common property boundary shall be no more than eight feet in height, unless otherwise restricted by this section.' Hazardous or sensitive facilities, including electrical substations, wireless telecom sites, public utility facilities, swimming pools and correctional facilities, may go taller, up to ten feet, or as low as six feet, when perimeter slope or subdivision-boundary conditions call for it.

Ordinary one- and two-family lots inside a subdivision that share a common boundary may instead use six-foot fencing along side and rear yards. Front yards are far more restricted: 'only fences less than or equal to three feet in height shall be allowed in the front yards of properties zoned for and/or used for one-and two-family residential uses.' The corner-visibility rule folds height into a solidity test rather than a flat ban: 'no fence, berm, vegetation, or other structure more than 30 percent solid and more than three feet high shall be located within 25 feet of the intersection of any rights-of-way,' so an open picket or wrought-iron style over three feet can still be allowed near an intersection if it stays under the 30 percent solid threshold.

Section 54-11(a) defines 'fence height' to include artificial earthen berms or other foundation accents built into the base, closing off the trick of raising a fence on a mound to beat the cap. One- and two-family parcels along collectors, arterials, highways or parks must additionally install a masonry wall or fence facing that road under § 54-11(b)(2)d, unless the Director of Planning waives it for unique circumstances.
