Middletown, OH Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Middletown ties fence and wall height to the yard it sits in rather than applying one citywide number. 06(e)(1), a fence, wall or hedge cannot exceed 48 inches in a front yard, or along any lot line adjacent to a street, including both street-facing lines on a corner lot, in any residential district or in the O-1 or O-2 Districts. 06(f)(1). 06(c)(1) from the lowest point within three feet of either side of the fence to its topmost point between posts, and posts may exceed the district maximum by up to six inches including decorative caps.

A double-frontage lot gets one more option: rear-yard fencing can rise above 48 inches if it is set back at least 50 feet from the right-of-way, capped at whatever height the applicable district allows in a rear yard. A certificate of zoning compliance or building permit is required to erect any fence or wall, except for repairs, in-kind replacements, or temporary construction fencing.
