In Omaha, fences in front yards/street setbacks are limited to 4 feet. Rear and side yard fences may be up to 6 feet. Permits are required for all new or replacement fences.
Omaha Chapter 43, Article V governs fence regulations. In required front yards or street yard setbacks, the maximum fence height is 4 feet. In rear yards and interior side yards, fences may be up to 6 feet in height. On corner lots, the street side yard fence may be 6 feet if it contains at least 50% open surface area. Front and street-side yard fences must have at least 50% of their surface area open and unobstructed. No solid fence may be installed within the vision triangle at intersecting streets (30-foot legs from corner). Fence fabric/finished surfaces must face adjacent property or street.
Fences built without permits or exceeding height limits are violations subject to code enforcement and may require removal or modification.
