Palm Beach Gardens, FL Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Section 78-186(b)(7)a of the Palm Beach Gardens Code sets the standard residential fence and wall height at a maximum of six feet, but perimeter fencing and walls built around a residential planned unit development can go up to eight feet. In both cases, the fence or wall cannot be erected forward of the established or existing front building setback line, so a taller privacy fence has to start behind that line rather than along the street frontage. Athletic-facility fencing gets its own separate allowance under the same subsection: fences for tennis, racquetball, baseball, and softball can reach 15 feet, other athletic facility fencing can reach ten feet, and backstops are exempt from the height rule entirely.

In the AR and AE agricultural districts, fences and walls in the front and side yard setbacks are allowed, but any fence or wall within the front setback there is capped at four feet. Section 78-186(b)(7)c measures fence height, including landscape berms and other means of raising elevation, from the average elevation of the property line where the fence sits, and chain-link fences must be vinyl-coated in black or dark green, except on single-family and duplex lots. Corner lots carry a separate rule in section 78-186(b)(8): fences, walls, hedges, structures, or plantings between 2½ feet and eight feet above the crown of the road cannot obstruct the visibility triangle formed by the intersecting street centerlines and a line connecting points 25 feet from the intersection along each street. The city's Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board can grant a height variance under section 78-53's criteria.
