Sahuarita, AZ Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

The Sahuarita zoning ordinance establishes maximum fence heights for residential properties. In rear and side yards, fences may not exceed 6 feet in height measured from finished grade. Front yard fences are limited to 3 feet to maintain the open character of streetscapes and ensure visibility for pedestrians and drivers. On corner lots, a visibility triangle is required at the intersection of streets, typically 20 feet along each street frontage from the corner, within which fences, walls, and vegetation must not exceed 3 feet to maintain safe sight lines for drivers approaching the intersection. Retaining walls that also serve as fences combine the retaining wall height and fence height for maximum calculation purposes. Decorative pilasters or columns at fence gates may exceed the fence height by a limited amount, typically 1 to 2 feet. Most residential areas in Sahuarita use masonry block walls or stucco-finished walls for perimeter fencing, consistent with southwestern desert architectural standards. Wrought iron is also common, particularly in front yards and along streetscapes in planned communities.
