Fences and walls in every yard require a building permit. In the front yard, fencing, walls, hedges and screen planting are capped at 4 feet and must be decorative and semitransparent, never solid or shadow-boxed, and cannot obstruct visibility into or out of the lot; a decorative front-yard fence must sit at least 1 foot inside the property line or 2 feet from a public sidewalk, whichever is greater, and chain link, woven or welded wire and sheet metal front fences are strictly barred. On a residential lot, overall fence height can rise to 8 feet if the top 2 feet are open lattice or similar non-opaque material matching the rest of the fence.

Corner lots fronting two streets may put a fence up to 6 feet in the street-side yard if it sits at least 4 feet in from the property line, with landscaping or hardscape filling the setback strip, and the fenced run limited to half the house's linear street frontage. Any fence or wall taller than 6 feet anywhere on the lot requires Building Official approval. A vision triangle at street intersections bars fences, walls, hedges or other vegetation taller than 2 feet 6 inches, with tree crowns kept at least 8 feet above the ground in that triangle.
