Material rules are in Islip Town Code Section 68-406. Section 68-406E prohibits fences that deliver an electric shock, charge or current to any animal or human being when touched, and also prohibits barbed wire, razor wire, concertina wire or any similar wire or device designed to injure persons, unless required by federal, state or local law. Section 68-406A requires that any fence taller than 6 feet be an open chain-link type, or one which does not restrict light or visibility through more than 15% of its surface. Section 68-406I requires that fences along street frontages of mini-storage warehouses be a wrought-iron-type fence designed pursuant to the direction of the Planning Board. Section 68-406J prohibits chain-link (cyclone) fences in the front yard on all properties in Business and General Service Districts. Decorative chain-link designs may be allowed elsewhere subject to review by the Department of Planning and Development.
