Section 34-446 of the Miami Gardens Code of Ordinances specifies fence material restrictions. Chain link fences are prohibited in all district front yards and side street yards β they are permitted only behind the front building line and not along property lines abutting side streets. Barbed wire, electrical elements, and other hazardous materials are prohibited as fence materials in residential districts. Chain link fences must have crimped tops to eliminate sharp edges. Approved residential materials include wood, PVC/vinyl, aluminum, masonry, and wrought iron. All fence materials must meet HVHZ wind-load standards for 175+ mph winds. PVC and pre-fabricated products may require Miami-Dade NOA approval.
Fences with prohibited materials are subject to Code Enforcement notices requiring replacement. Non-compliance carries fines starting at $250 per day. Chain link fences in prohibited locations must be removed or relocated. Fences not meeting HVHZ standards may require replacement.
