Sec. 53-240(M)(5)(c) prohibits exposed PVC and exposed cinder block fences citywide. Chain-link in non-residential districts must be vinyl coated in black or 'North Port City Center Green.' Split-rail and electric fences are allowed only in Agricultural (AG) zones. Barbed wire is allowed only in AG or Light Industrial and Warehousing (ILW) districts.
Ord. 2019-15 modernized material standards. Sec. 53-240(M)(5)(c)(iii) restricts split-rail fences to AG or Government Use (GU) districts. Sec. 53-240(M)(5)(c)(iv) limits electric fences to AG only. Sec. 53-240(M)(5)(c)(v) limits barbed wire to AG or ILW, and barbed wire may only be installed at the top of a fence (counted in the height calculation). Recreational sport facility fences must be black or 'North Port City Center Green' (Sec. 53-240(M)(6)(b)(iv)) and decorative wrought-iron (or similar) if visible from a roadway.
Installation of prohibited materials is a Code Enforcement violation. Fines up to $500/day and required removal at owner's expense before the special master.
