F.Materials and Appearance. The finished side of the fence or wall shall face outward from the property constructing the fence or wall.(1)Fences and walls shall be constructed of the following materials:a.Masonry or stone;b.Ornamental iron or other decorative metal;c.Painted wood, pressure-treated wood, or rot-resistant wood such as cedar, cypress, or teak;d.Composite materials designed to appear as wood, metal, or masonry;e.Vinyl Coated Chain link, in black or North Port City Center Green;f.Vinyl fencing; and g.Walls clad with substrate material intended to support living vegetation.

North Port's Unified Land Development Code requires the finished side of any fence or wall to face outward, away from the building lot. Section 3.7.7.F limits construction to masonry or stone, ornamental iron or decorative metal, painted or rot-resistant wood, wood-look composites, vinyl-coated chain link in black or North Port City Center Green, vinyl fencing, or living-wall cladding. Barbed wire, razor wire, chicken wire, corrugated metal, plywood, sheet metal, and fencing designed to injure people or animals are prohibited, except that AG and EC district properties and utility or substation sites are permitted to use split-rail, barbed, razor, or electric fencing.
Violations & Fines
Code enforcement can issue a stop-work order and require replacement of noncompliant fencing; fences over six feet or any wall built without the required zoning compliance certificate and building permit are subject to citation.
