Under California Health and Safety Code Β§115920 (the Swimming Pool Safety Act) and FMC Chapter 15, all swimming pools in Fresno must have at least two drowning prevention safety features. Enclosure fencing must be at least 60 inches tall with self-closing, self-latching gates that open outward away from the pool.
The California Swimming Pool Safety Act (H&S §§115920-115929) requires at least two of seven safety features on new or remodeled pools and spas: (1) enclosure fence 60 inches minimum with self-closing, self-latching outward-opening gate; (2) approved safety pool cover; (3) alarms on every door leading to the pool; (4) self-closing, self-latching devices on all doors to the pool that are at least 54 inches above the floor; (5) removable mesh fencing with a self-closing, self-latching gate; (6) swimming pool alarm under ASTM F2208; (7) other means of protection providing equal or greater protection. Fresno Building requires these features at permit final. Fences around pools must have vertical bars spaced not more than 4 inches apart, no horizontal members that can be used as climbing aids less than 45 inches apart, and latches at least 60 inches above grade. Gate latches must be self-closing and self-latching opening outward. Local enforcement inspects at pool permit completion and upon STR permit review.
