Fresno permits cooking with clean dry wood or charcoal in backyard smokers, pizza ovens, and similar devices at single-family homes; the same CFC §308.1.4 multi-family clearance rules apply to apartment balconies. The City's Fire Prevention article (FMC Ch. 10, Art. 5) treats smoke that drifts onto neighboring property and creates a hazard or nuisance as a violation. The Noise Ordinance (FMC Ch. 10, Art. 1) sets maximum sound levels of 50 dBA at residential property lines from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. and 55 dBA during daytime, which would apply if a smoker is paired with amplified music or generators.
