Fresno, CA Parking Rules: Curb Color Rules (2026)

' The rule dates to Ord. 3811 and was carried forward when the traffic article was repealed and re-added by Ord. 6130 in 1962, so it has governed unauthorized curb painting in Fresno for more than six decades. Its one exception covers curb address numbers, which residents may still have painted provided the painter has complied with whatever Code provision or city resolution governs that practice, historically a permit or business-license requirement for the private curb-numbering companies that go door to door. Chapter 13 contains a near-identical general ban at § 13-108, Painting Streets or Curbs Prohibited, which similarly exempts state highway authorizations, authorized city personnel, and Council-approved colored materials that are part of an approved street improvement; the two sections work together so that curb or street painting anywhere in the city, whether for parking curb colors, house numbers, or decorative purposes, requires city authorization unless it fits a listed exception.
