Fresno has no blanket citywide overnight on-street parking ban; instead vehicles are limited by the 72-hour storage rule (FMC 14-1006), so a passenger vehicle may legally remain overnight as long as it is moved before 72 consecutive hours pass. Posted time-limit and permit zones and the recreational-vehicle 24-hour movement rule are the main overnight restrictions.
Unlike some California cities, Fresno does not impose a general citywide overnight parking prohibition for ordinary passenger vehicles on residential streets. Overnight parking is instead controlled by the 72-hour storage limit in FMC 14-1006, which the Parking Division enforces 'regardless of whether or not there is any sign posted.' A passenger vehicle may therefore park overnight provided it is moved off the blockface at least once every 72 hours. Recreational vehicles are treated more strictly and must move 1,000 feet every 24 hours. Where the city has posted signs or established permit zones, those posted hours control; California Vehicle Code section 22507 authorizes local authorities to restrict overnight or time-limited parking by ordinance, but the restriction does not apply until signs or markings giving adequate notice have been placed (except in alleys).
An ordinary vehicle parked overnight is not cited solely for being parked overnight, but becomes subject to citation and towing once it exceeds 72 consecutive hours under FMC 14-1006 or violates a posted/permit restriction. Recreational vehicles left overnight without moving 1,000 feet in 24 hours may be tagged as abandoned and towed. Posted time-limit violations are enforced where signs are present, consistent with CA Veh. Code 22507.
