Hall County, GA Filming & Production: Location Permits (2026)

Sec. 030 makes it unlawful to conduct filming activity, defined by Sec. 020 as staging, shooting, filming, videotaping, or photographing for still photos, movies, TV programs, music videos, or commercials, anywhere in Hall County outside an established studio or enclosed structure without a film permit from the Business License Office. Sec. 040 exempts noncommercial family filming, filming for criminal or civil court proceedings, news filming broadcast within 24 hours, educational and public-access government filming, and nonprofit 501(c) filming not for commercial use, though the county reserves the right to suspend even exempt filming that threatens public safety.

Sec. 050 requires a completed application at least two weeks before the proposed filming date, though late applications may be considered for good cause. Sec. 060 requires the Business License Office to consult with the sheriff, fire marshal, county engineering, planning and zoning, and the Lake Lanier Convention and Visitors Bureau's camera-ready liaison for the Georgia Film Office before granting a permit, weighing noise, traffic, environmental impact, and interference with normal business or residential peace. Permit conditions can require police or fire personnel at the permittee's expense, traffic control devices, cleanup and restoration, restrictions on firearms and pyrotechnics, and advance notice to nearby residents or businesses.

Sec. 00 per day of filming, adjustable for project scope, with any governmental personnel or equipment cost overruns billed separately. Sec. 00, and Sec. 090 requires the permittee to indemnify and hold harmless all state and local governments and their officers, employees, and agents from claims arising out of the filming activity.
