Hall County, GA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

UDC Sec. A sets three numeric height standards. Clause 1 caps fences at no more than 7 feet in height in side and rear yards for all uses, unless otherwise permitted elsewhere in the UDC. Clause 2 lowers that cap to 6 feet for fences in yards adjacent to a street, reflecting the county's concern with sightlines along road frontages. Clause 3 sets a separate, lower cap of 4 feet for walls for all uses, again unless another UDC provision permits more. Clause 4 layers design rules on top of the height caps: residential fences and walls must use wood, brick, stone, decorative metal or aluminum, or split rail, with barbed wire limited to permitted agricultural uses, while nonresidential fences and walls must be ornamental or decorative in wood, brick, stone, metal or split rail, banning chain link, barbed wire and metal mesh outright.

Clause 6 cross-references Sec. F for fences and walls adjacent to street intersections, which independently bars any plantings, fences, walls or signs between 3 and 15 feet in height within 25 feet of the right-of-way intersection of two streets, railroads or driveways and a public road, protecting driver sightlines at corners regardless of the general yard height caps.
