Hall County, GA Animal Ordinances: Veterinary Clinic Zoning (2026)

Sec. C defines Animal Care (Outdoor) as "a facility designed or arranged for the care of animals that includes outdoor activity," and specifically lists "animal hospital, veterinary clinic, pet clinic" among the uses covered, alongside animal grooming, animal boarding, animal shelter, kennel (5 or more dogs or cats) and doggy day care. Four numeric use standards apply: "the minimum lot size is 5 acres in the AR-1, AG-1 and AG-2 districts," "no structure or area for the keeping of animals may be located within 100 feet of a property line," "an opaque fence or wall at least 6 feet in height must be erected adjacent to any area used for the keeping of animals," and a vegetative buffer is required under Sec.

2. On the Allowed Use Table, Animal Care (Outdoor) requires a Conditional Use Permit in the AG-1 and AR-1 districts, is not permitted at all in any purely residential district, requires a further Conditional Use Permit in the Office and Institutional and Suburban Shopping districts, is not permitted in Mixed-Use, and becomes a by-right Permitted use only in Highway Business, Light Industrial and Heavy Industrial zoning. A veterinary practice that keeps all animals and runs indoors, with only a small elimination yard of 2,000 square feet or less, is instead governed by the lighter Animal Care (Indoor) standard at Sec. B, which drops the five-acre lot minimum and the 100-foot setback.
