Grand Prairie, TX Filming & Production: Street Closures (2026)

Sec. 17-89 of the Grand Prairie Filming Guidelines (Ord. No. 10957-2021) lets the city manager authorize use of any street, right-of-way, park or public building for a motion picture, television or commercial production, and can require a security or damage deposit as a condition of that use before shooting begins. The section sets a published rate schedule the applicant must pay: total or disruptive use of a public building, park, right-of-way or public area during regular operating hours, up to three hours per day unless the city manager approves more, costs $500 per day, and partial, non-disruptive use of the same costs $250 per day.

For street closures specifically, total closure or obstruction of a public street or right-of-way, including parking lots and on-street parking, costs $50 per block per day, and a partial closure or obstruction of the same costs $25 per block per day. Parking film trailers, buses, catering trucks and other large production vehicles in city lots, parking areas or on city streets costs $50 per block or lot, per day. Sec. 17-85(b) backs the fee schedule with exclusive city control: the applicant agrees the city has sole authority to grant use of streets, rights-of-way, parks and public buildings, and to regulate both the hours of production and the general location of the closure, and the city reserves the full and absolute right to prohibit filming or order it to stop to protect public health, safety or welfare.

Sec. 17-94 makes the applicant responsible for repairing, within ten days of an invoice, any damage to public or private property caused by the closure or the production working around it.
