Lehi, UT Fire Regulations: Brush Clearance (2026)

Lehi City Code section 5-2A-6(C) gives the weed control inspector discretion to scale back the article's normal nine-inch height rule on large parcels. Where the inspector determines that cutting all weeds, vegetation and grass on a property is impractical because of its size, the inspector may instead issue an order limiting the required removal to a strip not less than twenty five feet wide around any structures and around the complete perimeter of the property. The clearance requirement traces back to the article's own nuisance findings in section 5-2A-1(B), which lists creating a fire hazard as the first ground for treating uncontrolled vegetation as a nuisance.

The same enforcement pipeline used for the general weed standard applies to a 25-foot clearance order: the inspector may enter and inspect under section 5-2A-5, must serve written notice describing the required clearance and giving ten days to comply under section 5-2A-7, and an owner may appeal to the civil violations hearing examiner within ten days under section 5-2A-8. If the owner does not clear the required strip, the city can do the work itself and bill the owner under section 5-2A-9, with unpaid costs collectible through a lawsuit or the county tax roll.

Section 5-2A-6(D) also lets the inspector exempt real property not close to buildings, or not creating a serious nuisance or fire hazard, such as agricultural land, from the clearance requirement altogether. Violating a clearance order is a class C misdemeanor under section 5-2A-10, with each day of noncompliance a separate offense, subject to the general fine and imprisonment ceilings in section 1-4-1.
