Unlike California, Arizona has no state-mandated 100-foot defensible space rule. Yavapai County relies on voluntary Firewise USA administered through the Yavapai Firewise Wildland Urban Interface Commission and Arizona DFFM. The Land Use Code Enforcement Unit accepts complaints about tall, dry weeds under the Weeds & Trash provisions. After the 2013 Yarnell Hill Fire, Firewise participation rose sharply.
