Safety Harbor follows the Florida Fire Prevention Code adopted under Chapter 8, which limits recreational fires to small contained pits, requires safe distances from structures, and demands constant adult attendance with extinguishing means available.
Safety Harbor adopts the Florida Fire Prevention Code (NFPA 1) by reference under Chapter 8, Article I of the city code. Recreational fires must use only seasoned firewood or charcoal, be confined within a noncombustible pit or approved appliance, and stay no larger than three feet in diameter and two feet high. The fire must be at least 25 feet from any structure or combustible material, with a connected garden hose or extinguisher on hand. An adult must supervise continuously until fully extinguished. The Safety Harbor Fire Marshal can order any fire extinguished if it creates a hazardous condition or smoke nuisance.
Unattended fires, oversized pits, or fires too close to buildings can be ordered extinguished and may result in code citations issued by the Fire Marshal.
