Bayonne, NJ Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Bayonne City Code § 19-9.f(1) amends Uniform Fire Code section F-3103.3.1 (Application), governing Chapter 31, Fireworks. It requires that any application for a permit to display or discharge fireworks be submitted in writing 45 days in advance of the display or discharge date. A permit issued under this section is nontransferable and cannot be extended past the dates stated in it. The application must set out the date, hour, and place of the display, the place where fireworks will be stored before the display, and the names of the person, firm, partnership, corporation, association, or group putting on the display, plus the name of whoever is in charge of igniting, firing, setting off, or exploding the fireworks.

Critically, the storage location itself is subject to the Fire Official's approval, giving Bayonne's Fire Prevention Bureau control over where explosive materials sit before an event even after the display permit is otherwise complete. This sits within Chapter 19's broader adoption of the Uniform Fire Code (N.J.A.C. 5:70-1 et seq.) under § 19-1, locally enforced by the Bayonne Bureau of Fire Prevention within the Bayonne Fire Department per § 19-2. Because the 45-day window runs from the display date, last-minute private displays cannot be permitted through this process, and the code does not carve out an exception for small personal displays.
