Bellevue, NE Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Bellevue Code of Ordinances Chapter 12, Article IV limits legal fireworks to "consumer fireworks" as defined in § 12-57, sparklers, fountains, torches, color cones and similar items approved under Neb. RS § 28-1241, while flying lanterns (heated-air balloon devices) are separately defined and, under § 12-60(D), their possession, use, discharge, retail sale or offer for sale is prohibited outright in the city regardless of any other provision. Under § 12-60(B), retail sale is allowed only from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily from June 25 through July 3, and from 8:00 a.m. until 12:00 midnight on July 4; discharge is confined to the same window plus 9:00 p.m.

December 31 to 12:30 a.m. January 1, unless the city council first expressly approves other times. Section 12-59 bars possessing, selling, offering for sale, bringing into the city, or discharging any fireworks other than consumer fireworks, and prohibits discharge within 100 feet of any structure used to exhibit or sell fireworks. Retail outlets must be licensed by the city (§ 12-60(A)) and meet siting rules under § 12-61: outlets and storage facilities must sit at least 25 feet from any public right-of-way, 100 feet from any residential structure and 50 feet from any other structure, with temporary sales structures kept 20 feet from storage facilities.

Sellers must be at least 14 years old, with someone over 16 present at all times, and sales to anyone under 16 are prohibited (§ 12-84). Storage for retail sale is confined to June 23 through July 7 at approved sites (§ 12-60(C)), and retail sites must post signage listing legal discharge days/hours and disposal responsibility for debris (§ 12-60(B)(2)).
