Bellevue, NE Fire Regulations: Propane Storage (2026)

Bellevue adopted the 2021 International Fire Code in Section 12-36 and enforces it through the fire code official under Section 12-37. Section 12-42 establishes the geographic limits referenced by several Fire Code sections that only apply within a designated area, and subsection (B) addresses Section 3408.2, which restricts liquefied petroleum gas storage for the purpose of heavily populated or congested areas. Rather than map a specific congested district, Bellevue's ordinance sets those limits as the entire City of Bellevue, so the Fire Code's LP-gas storage restrictions reach every residential and commercial property citywide rather than only a downtown or industrial zone.

The same section also fixes citywide limits on above-ground storage of Class I and Class II flammable and combustible liquids, flammable cryogenic fluids, and explosives, showing the city applies its hazardous-materials fire code provisions uniformly rather than by neighborhood. A property owner who believes the standard creates a practical difficulty may ask the fire chief for an individual modification under Section 12-39, provided public safety and the code's intent are preserved, and any adverse Fire Code decision can be appealed to the city council within 30 days under Section 12-40.
