Fireworks are prohibited under Illinois law. The Village's adopted fire code (IFC 2018) addresses fireworks displays. Only novelty items like sparklers are legal for consumer use.
The Village of Orland Park adopted the International Fire Code 2018 (Ordinance No. 5830) which regulates fireworks displays under Section 3308. The Illinois Pyrotechnic Use Act bans possession, sale, and use of consumer fireworks statewide, including firecrackers, bottle rockets, and roman candles. Only novelty fireworks (sparklers, snakes, party poppers, caps) are legal for consumer purchase and use. Professional fireworks displays require permits from the State Fire Marshal and local fire department. The Village's fire code deleted IFC Section 5605 (Manufacture, Assembly and Testing of Explosives) in its entirety, indicating separate handling of these regulations.
Fire code violations carry fines of $50 to $1,000. State criminal penalties also apply for illegal fireworks possession.
