Porterville, CA Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Porterville Municipal Code Section 12-2.2 splits fireworks into two tracks: Subsection A makes it unlawful for anyone to sell or offer to sell dangerous fireworks in the city outright, and Subsection B makes it unlawful to sell or offer 'safe and sane' fireworks without first getting a permit. Section 12-2.4 caps how many safe-and-sane sales permits the city issues each year at one for every 4,000 residents (or major fraction), based on the latest census figure, and only eligible nonprofit organizations that are headquartered in Porterville, hold regular meetings in the city, keep at least 20 members, and have operated as a qualifying charitable, religious, civic, patriotic, or community-service group for a full year may apply, with one permit per tax-exempt ID number.

Section 12-2.7 confines discharge to the period from noon on June 28 through 11:59 p.m. on July 4 each year, and Section 12-2.9 confines sales and stand hours to noon on June 28 through 10:00 p.m. on July 4, with daily stand hours of 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Section 12-2.8 bars igniting any fireworks within 15 feet of a residence, dwelling, other structure, public property, field, or waterway, and Section 12-2.10 separately bans manufacturing fireworks in the city, bans storing any fireworks in a home, garage, or car, and requires a 100-foot setback from gas stations and specific setbacks around any approved storage structure.
